Have you ever wondered who will be waiting round the clock in a remote location for the sporadic emergency call to launch a drone? The good news is: from now on, nobody has to!
As part of the 5G-Telk-NF project, mb+Partner and its project partners have planned, designed and built a drone hangar in Leck, which serves as a base for a mobile runway and thus enables the fully automated remote operation of fixed-wing drones. Remote take-off at the touch of a button results in extremely short reaction times. Communication with the control centre takes place via 5G, which enables live video transmissions and control of the hangar and drones.
The fixed-wing drones that are launched from this hangar require less than 25% of the maximum thrust, far fewer drive components and are generally cheaper to operate than VTOLs. By eliminating the landing gear, the payload and/or fuel capacity is further increased. The use of rails instead of a conventional runway means quick assembly, virtually no impact on local nature and access to areas that are otherwise difficult to reach.
