Supported by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, this real-world laboratory will pave the way for liquid hydrogen in civil aviation. 

Through this funding program, Hamburg supports aviation projects at innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the goal of making flying more sustainable.

Auf der Paris Air Show 2023 haben Hamburg Airport (HAM), Rotterdam Den Haag Airport (RTHA), Rotterdam Den Haag Innovation Airport und Hamburg Aviation eine bahnbrechende Zusammenarbeit angekündigt. 

AeroSHARK is a special film that can be applied to the exterior of an aircraft to reduce fuel consumption. The technology is co-developed by Lufthansa Technik. 

Airbus plans to introduce a zero-emission aircraft to the market by 2035. The project is called ZEROe, and key components of the new aircraft system are being developed in Hamburg. 

Hamburg Airport is the first major airport in Germany to operate carbon-neutral. Additionally, the airport has a plan to be completely carbon-free by 2035. 

In 2024, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Clean Aviation in 2024. Clean Aviation is the largest European Union funding program for the aviation industry. 

Hamburg Aviation is involved in ECARE, an EU-funded project aimed at representing the European aviation research landscape and promoting new synergies and cooperation potentials. 

Hamburg's start-up accelerator for aviation is open to companies from anywhere in the world that develop sustainable aviation technologies. The aim: nurture technologies and businesses to reduce the environmental impact of civil aviation. 

This comprehensive research project designs a concept for climate-friendly air transport, analyzing the life cycles, components, and fuels of commercial aircraft.

Hamburg Aviation is part of the AZEA consortium, a European network at the EU level with the goal of preparing for the market introduction of electric or hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft. 

This innovative project supports companies in Hamburg's metro region across multiple industrial sectors in decarbonising, developing measures and strategies that include energy use and climate resilience.
