New boost for mobility: HAW Hamburg founds Faculty of Aviation and Vehicle Systems

Date

HAW Hamburg is sending out a strong signal at the start of the winter semester: With the newly founded Faculty of Aviation and Vehicle Systems (LFS), the university is placing the future of mobility at the centre of teaching, research and transfer.

Students can expect a reformed range of degree programmes in aircraft technology, automotive engineering and mechatronics. The programmes are interdisciplinary and teach solid STEM skills - always at the cutting edge of science and technology.

In the field of aircraft engineering, the focus is on analysis, development and design. Teaching content such as modelling, simulation, testing and design prepares students for the complex challenges of the industry. Specialisations are possible in lightweight construction, aerodynamics, flight physics and cabin systems, among others. "We want to enable young people to actively shape the mobility of tomorrow - technically sound, socially responsible and with a clear eye for innovation," says Prof Dr Thomas Kletschkowski, founding dean of the new faculty.

The LFS is also focussing on future-oriented topics in its teaching: Practical problems from aviation technology, current research trends and modern teaching methods ensure a close connection to applied science. The faculty is also closely networked with the Computational Engineering and Applied Data Science doctoral centre at HAW Hamburg. By establishing the LFS faculty, the university is strengthening its role in the Hamburg Aviation cluster - as an active partner and driving force for the mobility of tomorrow.
