Anyone wanting to take off in the aviation industry could hardly ignore the Hamburg Employment Agency's Aviation Day on 18 November 2025. Under the motto "Are you looking for a good job in the aviation industry?", numerous companies from the metropolitan region presented their job opportunities and career paths, from large corporations to specialised suppliers. Hamburg Aviation was also represented with a stand, providing information about the diversity of professions, trends and future topics in Germany's largest aviation cluster.
Aviation – a sector in high demand
Around 50,000 skilled workers are already employed in the aviation industry in northern Germany – and the trend is rising. More than 300 players from business, research, education and politics are jointly shaping a location with international appeal. In 2024, the industry generated gross value added of €6.9 billion in Hamburg alone, with above-average per capita value added of €144,000. Hamburg stands for sustainable, future-oriented aviation like no other location. In addition to Airbus, Lufthansa Technik and Hamburg Airport, numerous medium-sized suppliers and engineering service providers shape the image of the industry – from mechanics and electronics to cabin equipment and IT to new propulsion systems.
The programme included exciting keynote speeches for visitors. Particularly popular: the free application portfolio check and professional application photos on site. In his welcome address, Sönke Fock, Chairman of the Management Board of the Hamburg Employment Agency, emphasised the importance of investing in human resources in challenging times: "It's great that companies are keeping their eyes open for skilled workers in the current situation. Have you brought your lasso? Because here you can find the right people for your company today."
Sustainability, digitalisation and innovation as drivers of the industry's future
In his presentation, Hamburg Aviation Managing Director Ralf Gust emphasised that sustainability, digitalisation and innovation are the key drivers of the industry's future: "From hydrogen propulsion and 3D printing to urban air mobility – in Hamburg, we are actively shaping the aviation of tomorrow." He encouraged visitors to take advantage of the opportunity to network directly with companies: “Define your next step – whether it's an internship, apprenticeship, degree programme or further training. Aviation offers a wide range of paths and real opportunities for development.”
