Minister H.E. Salim Al Aufi and his delegation visited Germany as part of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue. The focus was on Germany's energy cooperation with Oman as a future supplier of green hydrogen. On the initiative of the delegation, Hamburg Aviation was contacted as the contact for hydrogen customers in the aviation industry in order to coordinate a meeting with relevant companies. The focus was on German customers of green hydrogen and its derivatives as well as German technology providers. The meeting was attended by members of Hamburg Aviation such as Airbus, Lufthansa Technik and ZAL as well as companies from the Hamburg Renewable Energy Cluster.
The event took place on March 21 on the premises of the Chamber of Commerce. After welcoming remarks by the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Willem Van der Schalk, Minister H.E. Salim Al Aufi thanked the attendees for their hospitality. Maybrit Brooksnieder from Hamburg Aviation moderated the presentation of the aviation companies and the subsequent discussion. There was a lively exchange between the minister, the delegation and the German companies. Topics such as the production and supply chain of green hydrogen, opportunities for cooperation between German and Omani companies and the potential use of hydrogen in the aviation industry were discussed. The delegation showed great interest in the ongoing hydrogen projects in Hamburg as an aviation location.
All participants recognize the enormous potential for cooperation between Oman and Hamburg in terms of hydrogen and its supply chains. We thank all participants of the meeting for their open exchange.
In January 2024, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck already met the Minister of Energy during a trip to Oman, accompanied by a delegation of German company representatives.
