Internationalization

Strategy

In 2015 Hamburg Aviation was awarded the contract for the strategic internationalization of the regional aviation cluster as part of the New High-Tech Strategy of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). With the active participation of authorities, corporate, and university representatives, the Hamburg Aviation Office worked out a common strategy with corresponding options for action.

The strategy document is available for download on HAv-Connect under "Documents." You can also request the documents by e-mail.

Common Cause

The process was led by a project team consisting of Hamburg Aviation Office and ZAL GmbH. Furthermore, additional expertise from research institutes and companies involved in subcontracting was used for technical assistance. This was valid i.a. for expertise in IP rights, technology issues and market analysis.

Member Workshops and Next Steps

In a first strategy workshop, seven target regions were identified, analyzed and a selection determined together with the members. The following workshop priorized three target regions, each with specific objectives, in addition to the Montréal / Québec region in Canada, with the regions of São José dos Campos / São Paulo in Brazil, and Lisbon / Evora in Portugal. In a third and final workshop, the members of Hamburg Aviation defined concrete measures for implementation and thus finalized the strategy process for internationalization.

Since 2017, the strategy has been implemented step by step with all the cluster players. Numerous business travel trips took place in all regions, and workshops, B2B, project and business pitches were held in Hamburg as well as in the target regions themselves. We report on our website about the current activities and inform you about upcoming offers per member mailing. The Hamburg Aviation Office is looking forward to supporting the cluster players in further internationalization activities.
