readHamburg Airport is founding member of Hamburg Aviation.
There are almost 160,000 take-offs and landings here each year. Passengers can choose from a well spread route network, with 130 domestic and international destinations served by more than 60 airlines.
Hamburg Airport is the largest international airport in northern Germany, and the fifth largest in Germany overall. Incorporating Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and parts of Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Denmark, Hamburg Airport’s large catchment area, with its substantial passenger potential, is extremely interesting for all airlines. Hamburg Airport is equipping itself to face the challenges of the future of aviation with a modern infrastructure.
The airport is only eight kilometers from downtown Hamburg, which means short journeys for passengers. Extensively linking northern Germany to the core regions and cities of Europe is Hamburg Airport's great strength. The spectrum of destinations is diverse.
For both business and private travellers, the airport offers a large number of attractive direct connections. Passengers and visitors are equally welcome guests at Hamburg Airport. From clothing and souvenirs to books and magazines: around 40 shops at Hamburg Airport offer a wide range of services and shopping opportunities. And with approx. 25 travel agencies and last-minute counters, Hamburg Airport maintains a leading position in the travel market. The shops, travel agencies, pharmacy and banks are open for business from early morning until late evening, seven days a week. Numerous restaurants, snack bars and cafes create a unique atmosphere. The Airport in Miniature model show, the only one of its kind world wide, simulates the airport at a 1:500 scale and continues to fascinate visitors.
Almost 250 businesses based at the airport employ approximately 15,000 staff (incl. almost 2,000 directly employed by the airport). The partially privatised airport is owned by the Free & Hanseatic City of Hamburg, with a 51 percent holding, and AviAlliance GmbH with a 49 percent stake.
