After seven years, August Wilhelm Henningsen has stepped down as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH. He has been succeeded by Andreas Rieckhof, State Councillor at Hamburg's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Innovation. Rieckhof had already served on the Supervisory Board since 2015, including as Chairman of the Planning and Construction Committee.
August Wilhelm Henningsen had become a member of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH on October 1, 2015, at the same time taking over as Chairman. The former Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik AG, Hamburg, led the airport's Supervisory Board during a period marked by far-reaching changes - most recently including the Corona pandemic as the most severe crisis in the history of the aviation industry to date. As Chairman of the Supervisory Board, he further expanded Hamburg Airport's pioneering role in environmental protection, enabling the airport to achieve CO2 neutrality during his tenure - the first major commercial airport in Germany to do so.
"We would like to thank August Wilhelm Henningsen for his unparalleled, long-standing commitment to the airport and to Hamburg as an aviation location as a whole. In particularly difficult times, he has always guided the fate of the Supervisory Board with profound expertise, the necessary courage for innovative decisions and a big heart for aviation. With his expertise, he has helped to equip Hamburg Airport for the challenges ahead," says Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economic Affairs and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, representing the majority shareholder of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH. "At the same time, we are delighted that State Councillor Andreas Rieckhof, an accomplished companion of Hamburg Airport, has taken over as successor in office. In his seven years on the Supervisory Board to date, he has already played a key role in shaping the positive development of the site, including as Chairman of the Planning and Construction Committee. Now he has taken the helm on the Supervisory Board in very dynamic times."
Andreas Rieckhof has been State Councilor of the Ministry of Economics and Innovation, formerly the Ministry of Economics, Transport and Innovation (Transport Division), of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg since 2011.
In addition to August Wilhelm Henningsen, Ralf Staak and Jutta Bauer left the Supervisory Board during the course of this year. New members of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH are Dr. Nadine Bräuninger, representing the Hamburg Authority for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture, Birgit Schweeberg, representing the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, and Franziska Gscheidlinger, representing the airport's workforce.
Furthermore, Michael Pirschel, Head of the Department of Transport and Road Construction of the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Labor, Technology and Tourism, is a representative of the State of Schleswig-Holstein on the Supervisory Board. All other members of the Supervisory Board also remain on the board.
