With the "Hamburg Aviation Young Talent Award", Hamburg Aviation promotes young talents with innovative ideas in the German aviation industry. This contributes in the long term to maintaining the competitiveness of the aviation location of the Hamburg metropolitan region and to retaining well-trained academics at the location.

This year, the award will be given not only to theses in the "Bachelor" and "Master" categories, but also to theses on the topics of "Sustainable Aviation" and "Sustainable Cabin". The award is supported by Airbus Operations GmbH, Krüger Aviation GmbH, Lufthansa Technik AG and Treo Labor für Umweltsimulation GmbH.

This is the eleventh time that the Young Talent Award has been presented for theses dealing with aviation-related issues (including topics from other disciplines). With the Young Talent Award, Hamburg Aviation gives committed university graduates the opportunity to present their ideas and innovations to the aviation community. The winners of the Hamburg Aviation Young Talent Award can look forward to prize money of 1,500, 1,000 and 500 euros as well as free participation in next year's Hamburg Aviation Forums.

Runway clear for two new categories in the field of sustainable flying

This year, for the first time, applicants have the opportunity to apply specifically for the categories "Sustainable Aviation" or "Sustainable Cabin".  The "Sustainable Aviation" category has been awarded as a special category of the Young Talent Award since 2020. Here, the jury recognizes sustainable ideas that could make flying and the cabin more sustainable. Lightweight and, above all, materials of natural origin, cradle-to-cradle approaches in production - the range of impulses is broad and the significance equally high, because the aviation industry needs to rethink.

The award for the two new categories is presented with the kind support of Krüger Aviation. The Barsbüttel-based family business is a thought leader and global market leader in the manufacture of plastic components for aircraft cabins. The medium-sized company's Innovation Centre has completely realigned its focus on ecology and sustainability and is working on solutions for the aircraft cabin of tomorrow. "As a family business, we think in generations, which is why we not only have to rethink today, but start to change the way we do things" is how Nils Stoll, CEO Krüger Aviation GmbH explains the motivation behind the focus of the two new categories.

The application phase is open until May 16, 2023, 11:59pm. The basic requirement for participation is that either the supervising company or the university is located in the Hamburg metropolitan region.

The Hamburg Aviation Young Talent Award will be presented at the 63rd Hamburg Aviation Forum on 27 October 2022.
