The Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) took place for the twelfth consecutive time in Hamburg. For the first time at the expo, the Aviation Cluster Hamburg Metropolitan Region was present with its new logo, new corporate design and new name . For the seventh time, the Crystal Cabin Awards were presented as part of AIX; the Award was established by Hamburg Aviation. For the third time, Airbus hosted a cabinet reception for AIX, and for the first time, Walter Birkhan delivered an impromptu speech at the BDLI (German Aerospace Industries Association) stand.
Hamburg Aviation WoMen is the new specialist working group at the Aviation Cluster Hamburg Metropolitan Region. 48 women who are fascinated with flying accepted Hamburg Aviation’s invitation on 11 April. They ranged from pilots to personnel directors and from engineers to entrepreneurs.
Crystal Cabin Award 2013: After a formal dinner, 180 invited guests followed on 9th April in the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg the award ceremony with excitement as the trophies, designed to represent the arc of a fuselage section, were presented. The Crystal Cabin Award was won by Boeing, Diehl Aircabin, Dornier Technologie Systems, HAW Hamburg, Meru, Thales, Zodiac Aerospace.

Hamburg Aviation is active on behalf of the aviation industry in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region: Airbus, Lufthansa Technik, Hamburg Airport and more than 300 other companies, employing a total of more than 40,000 highly qualified personnel. Together, they cover the complete life cycle of an aircraft, from the design, manufacture and fitting out, to the global system of air transportation, maintenance, repair and overhaul, and finally to recycling. Then there are the excellent universities and training facilities along with leading research institutions. Put together, this makes the metropolitan region the third-biggest site in the civil aviation industry worldwide.
