The partners of the project “Safety Box” develop a safety cell, using monocoque construction to minimize serious and fatal injuries in the event of an aircraft crash.

The aim of the project is the establishment of an overall safety system with optimally harmonized components, consisting of monocoque crash absorbers and adapted seats with restraint systems. The developments are based on typical crash scenarios during critical phases of flight, from takeoff to landing, and will be accompanied by simulations on both the component and the overall level. The individual components of the Safety Box will be optimized and adapted in accordance with the particular requirements.

Initially, the safety cell is to be used in the four-seater C4 from Flight Design. This aircraft is currently in development and will be released to the market in mid-2015. Afterwards, the system is supposed to be offered to other types of aircraft and manufacturers as well.
