This project is generating the technical prerequisites for the development of a new procedure for cleaning heat exchangers in commercial aircraft.

With the help of this project, the technical prerequisites for the development of a new procedure for cleaning heat exchangers in commercial aircraft may be achieved. The results form the basis of a resource-friendly, component-friendly cleaning procedure characterised by reproducible high quality.

 

Precise investigation of the contamination, aided by physical and chemical surface analysis, provides comprehensive insight for the development of an improved cleaning procedure. Suitable cleaning agents can also be identified and the technical aspects of the procedure can be optimised. This will make it possible for heat exchangers to be cleaned in a way that is thorough and at the same time protects the surface. The water and energy requirements, along with the time required for cleaning and drying, can also be significantly reduced. On the basis of the findings of this research project, the resource requirements for cleaning have been significantly reduced, meaning that future cleaning of heat exchangers will be both more economical and more environmentally friendly.
