A few weeks have passed since Hamburg has been the center stage for trends and innovation in cabin interiors. This year's Aircraft Interiors Expo, the worldwide leading trade show for the cabin interiors industry, has presented 530 exhibitors - with 145 companies exhibiting for the first time. 16,000 industry executives are estimated to have attended - a record year for AIX.

Once again, the affiliated World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo was held in parallel at the Trade Fair site. The exhibition week began on Monday, 4 April when high-ranking figures from the industry gathered at Congress Center Hamburg (CCH) for presentations and discussions in the Passenger Experience Conference.

Hamburg as a host for the AIX offered again a top-class side program, notably the Crystal Cabin Award, the most recognized award for cabin interior innovations. For the 10th time the prize, instituted by Hamburg Aviation, was awarded. Keynotes by high-ranking speakers such as Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airlines and Brigitte Zypries, Parliamentary State Secretary for Aerospace Policy, complemented the award show, which celebrated this year's winners Rebel.Aero, Etihad, B/E Aerospace, Lufthansa Systems, Boeing, Sekisui SPI, TU Delft and Zodiac Aerospac. All of the finalists’ products and concepts were presented the next day in the Crystal Cabin Award Gallery to a fully packed auditorium.

The Aircraft Interiors Expo was accompanied by a media tour to the ZAL TechCenter, organized by Hamburg Aviation and Hamburg Marketing. International trade journalists and bloggers received an exclusive tour by ZAL CEO Roland Gerhards (including the only recently opened Virtual Reality Lab) and were able to join the AIX Senate Reception, hosted by Airbus at the TechCenter. Hamburg Senator for the Economy, Frank Horch, greeted the international guests who took their trip to Hamburg. Darren Johnson, Reed Exhibitions, emphasized the friendship with Hamburg as an important part of the success of the trade show.

Highlights and Innovations

Senator Horch and State Secretary Zypries visited Northern German enterprises as well as international companies such as Zodiac Aerospace and Diehl on a walk over the trade show on day 2 of the AIX. The Northern German pavillion from Hanse Aerospace again presented round about 70 small- and medium-sized companies such as Altran, who presented their new product, the "World Class Center Cabin" - a competence center for cabin development. Lufthansa Technik exhibited the first inductive boilerplate for onboard-cooking. Airbus attended the trade show presenting "Airspace by Airbus", a new concept for the A330neo cabin.

IFEC was once again center of attention on the AIX. Highlights of the pavillion were the Digital Sky by Thales, a touchscreen entertainment display, covering the whole front seat as well as the Waterfront Seat by Panasonic Avionics, an allrounder consisting of entertainment, broadband connection, inductive charger for the passenger's mobile devices and seat heating. US-based company gogo not only arrived in Hamburg with their own Boeing 737 but presented their broadband antenna 2Ku.

The perfect place for networking

International delegations met at AIX to elaborate possibilities for cooperation. Hamburg Aviation took their chances in various get-togethers, such as the Malaysian Roundtable.

After AIX ist before AIX: In 2017 the Aircraft Interiors Expo will again be taking place in Hamburg. From April 4-6 new innovations will be presented by the industry.
