innovative educational institute

Hochschule 21 embodies the dual concept as a practice-oriented alternative to purely academic studies and lays the foundations for the students' successful access to innovative professions. At present (Nov. 2011) approximately 700 students are working for 400 companies - including Airbus and members of the CFK Valley network. The engineering course Mechatronics DUAL B. Eng. (7 semesters) produces generalists who are able to work across the sectors at the interface of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer sciences. Each of the stated engineering disciplines is represented by experienced professors. The course is part of a development strategy for a mechatronics centre in the region, for which 2 million Euros has been invested in laboratories with state of the art technology from funds from the stimulus package. Furthermore, interfaces to CFK (carbon fibre reinforced plastic) can be found in the construction industry, which is depicted through the study course civil engineering DUAL and construction in existing contexts DUAL at the location.

Along with the IT laboratory, an electrical engineering laboratory and a production and manufacturing laboratory, it is the robotics laboratory in particular that is of interest for companies in the CFK Valley. The focus topic of the current research and development work on the CFK material in the context of aircraft construction is the reliable and quick and consequently favourably priced production of three-dimensional components. The automation of this manufacturing hereby plays a central role. Great freedom to move in three spatial directions is required, which is only possible through large-scale robotic technology. Such automation and robotic technology is one of the focal points in the course of studies Mechatronics DUAL.

In the building and construction industry, CFK is already being used for structural reinforcement, for instance in reinforcing components in engineering and building construction with carbon fibre slats, in particular in the case of renovating and modernizing concrete, masonry, wood and steel structures. In structural and civil engineering the university pursues approaches for light constructional components.
